Boys Volleyball Frequently Asked Questions
When is the volleyball season?
The volleyball season is in the Spring and during the second semester of school. Most of the players are enrolled in the sixth period volleyball class during first semester. It is Head Coach Kelly’s discretion to determine who will be enrolled in the first semester sixth period volleyball class.
Does the program run a summer camp for new and returning players?
Yes, the program does run a week long summer camp for all interested players. This is great opportunity to meet the coach and see the program.
How many volleyball teams does the high school have?
The program will have one team for each level of Varsity, JV, and Frosh/Soph. All three teams will compete during the season in league. In addition, all three teams will participate in three tournaments during the season on weekends. Only varsity will have the opportunity to qualify for the CIF postseason.
When are tryouts for volleyball?
Tryouts will be posted on the website calendar as soon as possible dependent on gym time. Program tryouts will be in late August. Team tryouts will take place in December. (Please note tryouts can change per Head Coach Kelly).
What is the fall schedule for the program?
The first semester the program focuses on lifting and conditioning. For example, players will lift 3 times per week and condition during 6th period 2 times per week. (This is just an example. Scheduling is dependent upon Head Coach Kelly and facility availability).
What location are practices held?
Los Alamitos has only one gym with many teams trying to use it. When not in season we have little control over gym time. Practices will take place both at Los Alamitos High School as well as AIM facility that the school rents in Seal Beach. The program will also utilize the weight rooms at the school.
Player Donations
Each year the boosters ask for a non-refundable, tax deductible donation to fund the program. These funds are used for the following partial list of items: team equipment, coach’s pay for volleyball class, trainer, tournament fees, transportation, serve-it-up dinner, banquet, uniforms, senior night, awards, etc. Families can reduce the amount of their donation with individual fundraising activities.
Transportation
Players are transported by bus to and from all league matches during school days. Players are not allowed to drive themselves to these matches. Bus transportation is not provided for weekend tournaments or when school is not in session.
Fundraising
The booster club will have a variety of fundraising opportunities to help support the program during the year. Our biggest fundraiser is participating in the “Taste for Los Al” fundraiser in October. We also host a snack bar for all home games to help raise money.
Uniforms
Each player is given two full uniforms for the season that will be returned back to the program at the end of the season.
